Commission a local site assessment. Bearing capacity, slab or footing design, anchors and finished levels need a qualified engineer’s approval. There is no universal slab thickness for every site.

Start with the space.
A good court starts with a workable site. Resolve the playing area, the space around it and the conditions below it before manufacturing.
DIMENSIONAL STARTING POINT
Room for the game.
A doubles court has a 20 × 10 m internal playing area. Allow additional space for the structure, access and circulation.
FIP rules set a minimum unobstructed height of 6 m; 8 m is recommended for new facilities. The net is 0.88 m at the centre and 0.92 m at the ends.

THE SITE CHECKLIST
Six things to resolve early.
02 / Rainwater & drainage
Plan surface drainage and discharge routes before fixing levels. A canopy also needs gutters and downpipes coordinated with site drainage.
03 / Wind, snow & exposure
Provide the location and applicable design loads. Coastal corrosion exposure, extreme weather and canopy loads can change the structural specification.
04 / Access & circulation
Reserve safe entrances, maintenance access, accessible routes, emergency exits and spectator space. Competition out-of-court play requires separate clearance review.
05 / Power & lighting
Confirm supply voltage, cable routes, controls and local electrical rules. Review glare, light spill and lighting levels against the venue’s use.
06 / Planning & permissions
Check land use, building permits, noise, operating hours, fire safety and accessibility with the relevant local professionals and authorities.
